Qualifications
Our clinic employs Certified Prosthetists and Orthotists and Registered Technicians. We are Certified /Registered by the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists & Orthotists (CBCPO). The CBCPO certification program is operated and regulated by Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC) which is the governing body of the P&O profession in Canada. OPC professionals are considered to be the experts in the field of Orthotics and Prosthetics. OPC sets the standards for education, residency requirements, national exams and continuing education. Its members must adhere to a strict ethical code of conduct as well as remain up to date with new innovations through mandatory continuing education. Clinical Staff
Winnipeg P&O employs Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists (CBCPO) certified practitioners which is regulated by Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC). To earn the designation Certified Prosthetist CP(c) or Certified Orthotist CO(c) a clinician must have completed:

A minimum two year residency followed by a two day national exam including practical and written segments.

A two year Prosthetic and Orthotic program in an OPC accredited school; George Brown College in Toronto or British Columbia Institute of Technology in Vancouver, each with a prerequisite of an undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of study.
Technical Staff
Winnipeg P&O employs Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists (CBCPO) Registered Technicians. To earn the designation Registered Prosthetic Technician RTP(c) or Registered Orthotic Technician RTO(c) the technician must have completed an internship period followed by a 2 day national exam including practical and written segments. Internship periods are:

A minimum two year internship under the guidance of a Certified Practitioner or Registered Technician in the specific discipline, for technicians who have completed the two year Prosthetic and Orthotic Technical program at George Brown College in Toronto.
or

A minimum four year internship under the guidance of a Certified Practitioner or Registered Technician in the specific discipline, for technicians without any formal P&O Technical education/training.
Scope Of Practice
Winnipeg P&O is committed to offering the highest quality of service, to each individual patient and their specific needs. Our Clinical staff are all members of Orthotics Prosthetics Canada and adheres to their standards.
As the practitioner responsible for patient care it is our focus to provide or directly supervise the provision of comprehensive care. This includes clinical assessment, patient management and technical implementation of services.
Winnipeg P&O consults and works closely with the rehab team of physicians and therapists which will ensure our clients the most effective care regardless of their condition: ranging from physical challenges, neuromuscular impairment or amputation levels.
